Araújo Rescues Uruguay Draw After Al-Owais Masterclass

Group Stage · Group H · Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens · June 15, 2026

Maximiliano Araújo’s 80th-minute equalizer saved Uruguay from defeat against Saudi Arabia, as the teams drew 1-1 in Miami Gardens.

Abdulelah Al-Amri gave Saudi Arabia the lead in the 41st minute. Uruguay then took over, finishing with 67% of the ball, 27 shots and 14 corners. Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais made nine saves, and Manuel Ugarte hit the woodwork, before Araújo finally beat him 10 minutes from time.

All four Group H teams have one point after the first round, after Spain were held by Cape Verde earlier in the day.
