South Korea National Football Team (Korea Republic)

대한민국 축구 국가대표팀
Korea Football Association
Founded in 1948

The South Korea men’s national football team has been a prominent force in international football since the mid-20th century, representing a nation with a deep and resilient footballing culture. Governed by the Korea Football Association, the team joined FIFA in 1948 and competes within the Asian Football Confederation, establishing itself as one of Asia’s most consistent and respected programs.

South Korea’s international achievements are highlighted by their unparalleled consistency on the world stage, having qualified for eleven FIFA World Cups, including ten consecutive appearances. Their most historic moment came in 2002, when they became the first and only Asian nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals while co-hosting the tournament with Japan. Regionally, South Korea has claimed two AFC Asian Cup titles, finished runners-up four times, and earned multiple gold and silver medals at the Asian Games.

Nicknamed the “Reds” for their iconic kit color and backed by the passionate Red Devils supporters, South Korea’s football identity blends intensity, discipline, and technical growth. While football was introduced to the Korean peninsula in the late 19th century, the sport’s foundation was solidified through organized competitions in the early 20th century, laying the groundwork for national development despite the challenges of colonial rule.

In the modern era, South Korea has continued to strengthen its global reputation through sustained World Cup participation and the rise of elite players competing at the highest levels of club football. Their enduring presence in international tournaments reflects both a proud footballing tradition and a commitment to continued growth, ensuring South Korea remains a central figure in the global game.
