The Uzbekistan men’s national football team represents Uzbekistan in international competition and is governed by the Uzbekistan Football Association. A member of FIFA and competing within the Asian Football Confederation, the team has emerged as the most competitively successful national program in Central Asia since gaining independence in the early 1990s.

Uzbekistan has built a strong continental profile through consistent performances in Asian competitions. The national team reached the semi-finals of the AFC Asian Cup for the first time in 2011 and has recorded notable success in multi-sport tournaments, including winning the gold medal at the 1994 Asian Games and finishing as runners-up at the Afro-Asian Cup of Nations in 1995. These achievements established Uzbekistan as a leading force in its region.

After years of near misses in World Cup qualification, Uzbekistan reached a historic milestone by qualifying for the FIFA World Cup for the first time for the 2026 tournament. That breakthrough marked a defining moment for the program and reflected decades of steady development, investment in domestic football, and growing international experience.

In the modern era, Uzbekistan continues to combine technical quality with tactical discipline, supported by a strong football culture shaped by both Soviet-era foundations and post-independence growth. With a landmark World Cup appearance ahead and sustained competitiveness in Asian tournaments, Uzbekistan has firmly positioned itself as Central Asia’s flagship national team on the global stage.
