France National Football Team

Équipe de France de football
(French Football Federation (FFF))
Founded in 1919

The France men’s national football team represents France in international competition and is governed by the French Football Federation. A founding member of FIFA and a leading force within UEFA, France has been a central presence in world football since 1904. Known colloquially as Les Bleus, the team plays its home matches at the Stade de France and is closely associated with the nation’s tricolour identity and the Gallic rooster.

France stands among the most successful national teams in football history, having won two FIFA World Cups (1998 and 2018) and two UEFA European Championships (1984 and 2000). The national team has also captured the UEFA Nations League and multiple Confederations Cups, reflecting sustained excellence across different eras. France was one of the first European teams to compete in the inaugural World Cup in 1930 and has remained a consistent contender at major tournaments ever since.

The modern legacy of Les Bleus has been shaped by distinct golden generations. Under Michel Platini in the 1980s, France claimed its first major title at Euro 1984, while the late 1990s and early 2000s delivered a historic World Cup–European Championship double led by Zinedine Zidane and Didier Deschamps. A new generation emerged in the late 2010s, culminating in World Cup triumph in 2018 and consecutive World Cup final appearances in 2018 and 2022.

In the contemporary era, France is defined by depth, athleticism, and elite player development across all age levels. As one of the few nations to have won every major senior FIFA and UEFA competition, Les Bleus continue to set benchmarks for international success, blending historic prestige with sustained competitiveness on the global stage.
