Qatar Confident Ahead of 2026 World Cup After Historic Qualification

Qatar’s national football team continues to build momentum as the country prepares for its second consecutive appearance at the FIFA World Cup.

The team secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating the United Arab Emirates 2–1 during the final round of Asian qualifying. The victory marked the first time Qatar has reached the World Cup through the standard qualification process, having previously appeared as hosts in 2022.

For the Qatari national team, the achievement represents a major step forward in the development of football in the country.

Building on the Experience of 2022

Qatar made its World Cup debut in 2022 when the nation hosted the tournament. Although the team struggled during the competition and finished bottom of its group, the experience provided valuable lessons for players and staff.

The upcoming 2026 tournament will give Qatar another opportunity to compete on the global stage, this time as a qualified team rather than a host nation.

Strong Core of Experienced Players

Several experienced players remain central to Qatar’s squad as preparations continue. Veterans who played key roles during the 2022 World Cup and recent Asian competitions continue to anchor the team’s lineup.

Former captain Hassan Al-Haydos, one of the most decorated players in the country’s history, returned to the national team setup after briefly retiring from international football. The veteran forward has earned more than 180 caps and remains one of Qatar’s most influential players.

His experience, along with a growing group of younger players, provides Qatar with a balanced squad as the World Cup approaches.

Preparation Through International Competition

As part of its preparation for the tournament, Qatar has been involved in several international fixtures and events designed to test the squad against high-level opponents.

One of the major events leading into the tournament is the 2026 Qatar Football Festival, which will bring several international teams to Doha for exhibition matches ahead of the World Cup. The event includes high-profile games and the Finalissima between Argentina and Spain.

These matches are intended to help participating teams sharpen tactics and build match fitness before the global tournament begins.

Eyes on the 2026 Tournament

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico and will feature an expanded 48-team format.

For Qatar, the tournament represents an opportunity to prove the progress made since hosting the 2022 World Cup. With valuable experience from the previous competition and a more established squad, the team will aim to compete more strongly on the international stage.

Qatar’s qualification has already energized supporters across the country, and expectations are growing that the national team can make a stronger impression when the world’s biggest football tournament begins.
