Rodrygo Ruled Out of 2026 World Cup After Devastating Knee Injury

Brazil’s preparations for the upcoming global tournament have suffered a major setback after forward Rodrygo was ruled out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a serious knee injury.

The Real Madrid attacker sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and a torn meniscus in his right knee during a La Liga match against Getafe CF. Medical tests later confirmed the severity of the injury, which will sideline the Brazilian star for the remainder of the season and the upcoming World Cup.

A Dream Cut Short

Rodrygo had been expected to play a key role for the Brazil men’s national football team during the tournament. The 25-year-old forward has developed into one of Brazil’s most dynamic attackers in recent years, known for his speed, creativity, and ability to perform in big matches.

Following confirmation of the injury, Rodrygo shared an emotional message with fans on social media, describing the moment as one of the most difficult days of his career. He acknowledged that the injury would prevent him from representing Brazil on football’s biggest stage, calling the World Cup a dream that meant everything to him.

The injury occurred during Real Madrid’s 1-0 defeat to Getafe when Rodrygo’s knee was caught while accelerating during a challenge. Although he finished the match, subsequent medical examinations confirmed the serious ligament damage.

Impact on Brazil’s World Cup Plans

Rodrygo’s absence leaves a significant gap in Brazil’s attacking options. He had been part of the national team setup in recent friendlies and was widely expected to feature prominently in the tournament squad.

Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti will now be forced to adjust his attacking plans as the team prepares for the tournament. With several players already dealing with fitness issues across Europe, Brazil’s coaching staff may look to younger players or alternative options to strengthen the squad.

Despite the setback, Brazil still enters the tournament with one of the most talented player pools in international football. However, losing Rodrygo removes one of the team’s most dangerous attacking weapons.

Focus Turns to Recovery

For Rodrygo, the focus now shifts toward rehabilitation and recovery. ACL injuries typically require several months of rehabilitation, meaning the Brazilian forward will face a long road back to full fitness.

While the immediate future is filled with disappointment, the young star remains determined to return stronger. Fans across Brazil and around the world have flooded social media with messages of support as he begins the recovery process.
