Algeria National Football Team

منتخب الْجَزَائِر لِكُرَّةُ الْقَدَم
(Algerian Football Federation)
Founded in 1962

The Algeria men’s national football team represents Algeria in international competition and is governed by the Algerian Football Federation. A member of FIFA and competing within the Confederation of African Football, the team plays its home matches primarily at the 5 July Stadium in Algiers and the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran. Algeria joined FIFA in 1964, shortly after gaining independence.

Algeria has qualified for the FIFA World Cup on five occasions, including appearances in 1982, 1986, 2010, 2014, and qualification for the 2026 tournament. The national team is widely remembered for its historic 2–1 victory over West Germany at the 1982 World Cup, one of the most iconic results in tournament history. In 2014, Algeria reached the knockout stage for the first time and became the first African nation to score four goals in a World Cup match.

At the continental level, Algeria has captured the Africa Cup of Nations twice, winning as hosts in 1990 and again in 2019. Beyond AFCON success, the team has also claimed titles at the Mediterranean Games, All-Africa Games, Afro-Asian Cup of Nations, and the FIFA Arab Cup, reflecting a broad record of regional and intercontinental achievement.

In the modern era, Algeria continues to blend technical quality, intensity, and strong national identity. With a proud footballing history rooted in both sporting excellence and cultural significance, the team remains a leading force in African football and a consistent contender on the international stage.
