Croatia National Football Team

Hrvatska nogometna reprezentacija
(Croatian Football Federation (HNS))
Founded in 1912

The Croatia men’s national football team represents Croatia in international competition and is governed by the Croatian Football Federation. A member of FIFA and competing within UEFA, the team is instantly recognizable by its red-and-white checkered identity and is widely known as the Vatreni (Blazers).

Since gaining international recognition in the 1990s, Croatia has established itself as one of the most consistently successful national teams relative to population size. The Vatreni have won three FIFA World Cup medals, finishing third in their debut appearance in 1998, runners-up in 2018, and third again in 2022. These achievements place Croatia among the most accomplished nations of the modern World Cup era.

Croatia’s global reputation has been shaped by generations of elite players who have excelled on the world’s biggest stages. Davor Šuker captured the Golden Shoe at the 1998 World Cup, while Luka Modrić’s leadership and influence were recognized with the Golden Ball in 2018 and the Bronze Ball in 2022. At the continental level, Croatia has reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA European Championship and finished as runners-up in the UEFA Nations League in 2023.

In the modern era, Croatia continues to blend technical quality, tactical intelligence, and competitive resilience. Regular qualification for major tournaments and repeated deep runs at the World Cup have cemented the Vatreni’s status as a global football power, carrying a distinct national identity and a legacy that far exceeds the country’s size on the international stage.
