منتخب قطر لكرة القدم
(Qatar Football Association)
Founded in 1960

The Qatar men’s national football team represents Qatar in international competition and is governed by the Qatar Football Association. A member of FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation, the team is widely known by its nickname, The Maroons, and plays its home matches primarily at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium. Over recent decades, Qatar has emerged as one of Asia’s most rapidly developing football nations.

Qatar’s rise on the continental stage has been marked by significant tournament success. The national team has won the Arabian Gulf Cup on three occasions and captured the AFC Asian Cup twice, in 2019 and 2023. Their 2019 Asian Cup triumph was particularly notable, as Qatar defeated several regional and continental powers while conceding just a single goal throughout the tournament, signaling a new level of competitiveness in Asian football.

On the global stage, Qatar made its FIFA World Cup debut as host of the 2022 tournament, becoming the first Arab nation to stage the competition. While their on-field results fell short, the event represented a defining moment in the country’s footballing history and infrastructure development. Building on that experience, Qatar secured direct qualification for the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, underscoring continued progress and ambition at the international level.

In the modern era, Qatar’s national team reflects a long-term investment in player development, coaching, and competitive exposure. Supported by strong domestic structures and growing regional rivalries, the Maroons continue to position themselves as a consistent force in Asian football, with aspirations of translating continental success into sustained impact on the global stage.
